Find your own voice at the instrument

Peter's workshops help musicians — especially classically trained players — open the door to improvisation and discover a personal vocabulary.

The main thrust of the workshops is to show musicians how to pay attention to their own voice and develop their own vocabulary — rather than concentrating on the ideas of other composers.

Peter's specialty is helping instrumentalists with little experience improvising — especially classically trained musicians — to approach their instrument from within, and reach for their own sound.

The methods are not genre-specific. The workshops don't intend to teach "jazz" per se, but focus on showing players how to play from within, rather than through the repertoire of other composers. Students can then use these methods to improvise in any style, generate new musical ideas, or write songs.

Peter is an experienced teacher, having taught at university and high school levels and mentored hundreds of students, adults and kids, individually.
